Grade 6 G6 £18,070 to £20,138 (pro rata) -Term time only

JOB SPECIFICATION

We are looking for casual/bank Teaching Assistants to cover staff absence when required.

Aim: To support the class teacher in teaching and learning. 

The successful candidate will be expected to: 

  • Provide the child with the necessary help and support required for to:  
  • access the curriculum 
  • manage learning and behaviour 
  • to participate in classroom and school activities; 
  • Provide pastoral, social and personal care for the child, including intimate care; 
  • Provide supervision and care during break times, including lunch; 
  • Support the integration of the child to mainstream school where relevant; 
  • Meet, plan and prepare activities for students with teachers and other agencies; 
  • Attend training to develop an understand of the needs of the child and your role in relation to these; 
  • Give feedback to colleagues as appropriate and provide written reports on the child’s progress in consultation with others; 
  • Show commitment to the school’s equal opportunities policy; 
  • A commitment to safeguarding children in line with the Oxfordshire County Council Child Protection and Safeguarding Children policy; 
  • Adhere to the staff code of conduct at all times; 

In addition: 

  • Assist classroom teachers as directed/necessary, including taking small groups of children out of class for help with their work, or helping children in the classroom alongside the teacher; 
  • Help the teacher with simple practical and administrative tasks. 

PERSON SPECIFICATION/SELECTION CRITERIA 

Essential  

  • English and Maths GCSE or equivalent at grade C or above.  
  • Good levels of literacy and numeracy (to be assessed at interview) 
  • Experience of working with secondary aged children with complex needs, ASD and medical needs. 
  • An understanding of the barriers to learning faced by students with complex needs. 
  • Meet Teaching Assistant standards  
  • Excellent numeracy/literacy skills – equivalent to NVQ Level 4 in English and Maths 
  • Training in relevant learning strategies e.g. literacy, numeracy, communication approaches etc. or willingness to be trained 
  • Specialist skills/training in curriculum or learning area e.g. sign language, PECs, ICT 
  • Can use ICT effectively to support learning 
  • Full working knowledge of relevant polices/codes of practice/legislation 
  • Good understanding of child development and learning processes 
  • Constantly improve own practice/knowledge through self-evaluation and learning from others 
  • Ability to relate well to children and adults 
  • Work constructively as part of a team, understanding classroom roles and responsibilities and your own position within these 
  • A commitment to safeguarding and health and safety legislation 
  • A commitment to upholding the school’s vision and values 
  • Ability to turn up for work regularly and on time.
